Gene is a renowned Emmy and Peabody Award-winning producer, filmmaker, and actor, boasting an illustrious career spanning multiple decades. He began his journey in the entertainment industry by landing a small role in Wes Anderson's film Bottle Rocket.
Throughout his career, Gene has directed, written, and acted in numerous narrative and documentary films, featuring a diverse range of celebrated actors, including Meryl Streep, Natalie Portman, Ethan Hawke, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Peter Sarsgaard, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Denis O'Hare, Olympia Dukakis, Peri Gilpin, Reed Birney, Paul Benjamin, and Lorelei Linklater.
Gene is the mastermind behind the creature feature The Yeti, starring Brittany Allen, Eric Nelsen, Corbin Bernsen, William Sadler, Christina Bennett Lind, Heather Lind, and Jim Cummings.
As an Executive Producer, Gene has worked on the Grammy award-winning documentary film AMERICAN SYMPHONY, which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and is directed by Matthew Heineman. The film is produced by Michelle and Barack Obama's production company Higher Ground and has received numerous accolades, including being Oscar shortlisted, Bafta-nominated, and winner of the Pare Lorentz, Critics Choice, and PGA awards.
Gene is also a producer of the Peabody award-winning Disney+ and National Geographic TV series, Photographer, which features Academy Award winners Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin. The six-part series has been nominated for several prestigious awards, including the ASC, NAACP, Cinema Eye, Independent Spirit, Spirit, Emmy, and GLAAD awards.
In 2021, Gene produced 10 episodes of the Emmy-nominated series Edge of the Unknown with Jimmy Chin for National Geographic and Disney+, featuring elite adventure athletes Alex Honnold, Jimmy Chin, Justine Dupont, Conrad Anker, Travis Rice, Angel Collinson, Gerd Serrasolses, Sarah McNair-Landry, Will Gadd, and Ben Stookesberry.
Gene was a Co-Producer on the Emmy Award-winning film The First Wave, a documentary directed by Academy Award nominee Matthew Heineman for Nat Geo, Participant, and Neon released on Hulu. For the film, Gene spent hundreds of hours embedded in New York City's ICUs while the city was the epicenter of the global pandemic. The First Wave won Emmy awards for Best Documentary, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing and was Oscar shortlisted.
Gene has also produced the short documentary When a Rocket Sits on the Launch Pad, which had its World Premiere at the Berlinale in 2023.
