Gayatri Joshi was born on March 20, 1977, in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India, to a Marathi-speaking family. Her early education took place in Mount Carmel High School, where she later relocated to J.B. Vachha High School in Dadar, Bombay, after her family moved there. She went on to study at Sydenham College, pursuing a degree in Commerce, while also venturing into modeling, working with prominent brands like Godrej, LG, Ponds, Bombay Dyeing, Sunsilk, Philips, and even collaborating with Shahrukh Khan for a Hyundai advertisement.
Gayatri's modeling career gained momentum when she was selected as one of the five finalists for the 1999 Femina Miss India Contest, subsequently representing India at the Miss International beauty pageant in Japan during the same year.
In 2001, she appeared in the Seasons Catalogue and Calendar, and also featured in two music videos, Hansraj Hans' 'Jhanjaria' and Jagjit Singh's 'Sagar Ki Kashti'.
Gayatri made her acting debut in the 2004 movie 'Swades', starring opposite Shahrukh Khan.
On June 23, 2005, Gayatri became engaged to Vikas Oberoi, the Managing Director of Oberoi Constructions, in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A. The couple tied the knot on August 27, 2005, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, with notable guests including Twinkle Khanna, Isha Koppikar, Abbas-Mastan, Rakesh Roshan, Bhushan Kumar, and Inder Kumar. On September 1, 2006, Gayatri gave birth to a baby boy.
