Gaz Alazraki is a Mexican writer, director, and producer who has made a significant impact in the entertainment industry. He is the director and writer of the record-breaking comedy "We Are the Nobles" (2013) and the co-creator, executive producer, and director of Netflix's first original Spanish-language series,Club " de Cuervos" (2015).
Born and raised in Mexico City, Alazraki attended the American School Foundation in Mexico City and later studied at the University of Southern California (USC),where he pursued a career in film and television. His grandfather, Benito Alazraki, was a prominent Mexican filmmaker, and his father, Carlos Alazraki Grossman, worked in television before opening his own advertising agency.
Alazraki began his career in the entertainment industry by working on big productions in the advertising industry, while also directing short films on the side. He worked as an assistant director for filmmaker Alejandro González Padilla and later directed commercials for major companies in Mexico.
In 2004, Alazraki founded his own production company, Agave Shots, in partnership with Pitipol Ybarra and under the mentorship of Simón Bross. The company focused on directing commercials for the advertising industry, and Alazraki directed several successful short films, including "Volver, volver" (2005) and "La hora cero" (2008).
Alazraki's breakthrough came with the release of "We Are the Nobles" (2013),which became the biggest release for a Mexican movie in history, grossing over $340 million pesos in box office sales and becoming the 16th highest-grossing film in Mexican history. The film also won several awards, including Best Movie by iTunes Store Mexico.
In 2015, Alazraki co-created and directed the Netflix original series "Club de Cuervos," which became the first original Spanish-language series produced in Mexico for the world. The show was a huge success, running for three seasons and earning critical acclaim.
Throughout his career, Alazraki has demonstrated his versatility as a writer, director, and producer, working on a wide range of projects, from commercials to feature films to television series. He is the founder of Alazraki Entertainment, a Mexico City-based production company focused on producing high-quality entertainment for general audiences in Latin America and Hispanic USA.
