Mr. Watkins embarked on a remarkable journey in the film industry, commencing his career by four-wall filming in various states. As he progressed, he ascended the ranks from Production Assistant to Director of Photography, Director, Writer, and ultimately, Producer. His impressive trajectory continued with a stint in the story department at Paramount Pictures.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Watkins has also worked in film distribution, overseeing the premiere and promotion of various films as a field representative for esteemed companies such as United Artists and others. He has showcased films at prestigious events like the American Film Market, Cannes Film Festival, Milan Film Festival, and more.
Furthermore, Mr. Watkins has shared his extensive knowledge and expertise as a full-time lecturer in film production, directing, screenwriting, and producing at the University of North Texas. His impressive roster of former students has gone on to achieve success in various cities worldwide, including Berlin, London, New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Seoul.
As his academic career drew to a close, Mr. Watkins served as Associate Chair of the Media Department at the University of North Texas. In addition, he co-authored the seminal publication "Post: The Theory and Technique of Digital Nonlinear Motion Picture Editing" alongside Melinda Levin, which was published by Allyn and Bacon Publishers.
To this day, Mr. Watkins continues to work in production and distribution, catering to all platforms, and remains an influential figure in the film industry.
