Born in Berlin, West, Fred Kelemen embarked on a multifaceted educational journey, studying painting, music, philosophy, the science of religions, and theatre sciences. He honed his skills as a director's assistant in various theatres before enrolling in the German Film & TV Academy Berlin (dffb) in 1989. Since then, he has been actively involved in the film industry, directing and producing numerous films and videos, as well as collaborating with renowned directors such as Béla Tarr, Gisa Schleelein, and Gariné Torossian.
Kelemen's directorial credits include several plays staged at various theatres in Germany, including productions in 2000 and 2001. In addition to his work in the film industry, he has been a guest lecturer at several prestigious institutions, including the Centre of Cinematographic Studies of Catalonia (C.E.C.C.) in Barcelona, Spain, the School of Visual Arts (ESBAG) in Geneva, Switzerland, the Latvian Cultural Academy (LKA) in Riga, Latvia, Tel Aviv University, the Film and TV Academy Berlin (dffb),and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Lyon, France.
Throughout his career, Kelemen's work has been showcased in numerous retrospectives, which have been presented in cities around the world, including Lisbon, Portugal, Belgrade, Yugoslavia, Cambridge, USA, Athens, Greece, Brussels, Belgium, Oslo, Norway, Hannover, Germany, New York City, USA, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Berlin, Germany, Barcelona, Spain, Bern, Switzerland, Ankara, Turkey, London, England, Potsdam, Germany, Bangkok, Thailand, and Hamburg, Germany.
Fred Kelemen is a member of the European Film Academy, the German Film Academy, and the European Culture Parliament.
