Frances Barth, a renowned visual artist, was born in the Bronx and has resided in New York since the 1960s. Over the past 15+ years, she has ventured into filmmaking, scripting, and directing a diverse array of projects, including short films, documentaries, narrative and experimental films, and animated films.
In 2017, Barth published her inaugural graphic novel, Ginger Smith and Billy Gee, which originated from her paintings and was later developed into a script. The novel was showcased at Silas Von Morisse gallery in 2018. Her latest film, Ginger Smith and Billy Gee (2024),is a groundbreaking green screen experimental film adapted from her graphic novel of the same name.
In 2007, Barth created her first animation, End of the Day, End of the Day, which was both scripted and presented at Triangle Artists in 2019, featuring two actors and video projection. Her film Dreaming Tango (2020) premiered at the New York Anthology Film Archives in August 2020 and garnered the prestigious Best Experimental Short award at the Cannes Short Film Festival.
Barth's film Cock Robin (2023) was a triumphant winner at the New York Movie Awards in the Comedy category. Throughout her career, she has honed her skills in film history, cinematography, editing, and producing at the esteemed School of Visual Arts and received a certificate in Film/TV from New York University.
As a member of the Filmmakers Cooperative in New York City, Barth continues to push the boundaries of her craft, consistently producing innovative and captivating works that showcase her unique vision and artistic talent.
