Felipe González, a renowned Spanish politician, was born in 1942 in the city of Sevilla. His remarkable career in politics was marked by his tenure as the general secretary of the Partido Socialista Obrero Español, also known as the Spanish Socialist Workers Party, as well as his position as the president of the Government of Spain, a role he held from 1982 to 1996.
González's journey in politics began during the Franco dictatorship, when he joined the clandestine Socialist Youth organization. As a member of this group, he actively participated in protests against the regime, which ultimately led to his arrest in Madrid in 1971.
Following his release from prison, González continued to play a significant role in the PSOE, taking over as the general secretary in 1974. After the death of General Franco, González was able to obtain his certificate as a member of parliament in the first democratic elections held in Spain.
