Ernest Thompson, a renowned Academy Award winner, has had the privilege of collaborating with and sharing the screen with an impressive 30 fellow Oscar winners or nominees throughout his illustrious career.
In addition to his work as an actor, Ernest has also made a significant impact as a writer and director, bringing his unique vision to the big and small screens. He has penned the scripts for several independent films, including Time and Charges (2013) and Heavenly Angle (2014),both of which he also directed. Furthermore, he has costarred with the esteemed NYPD Blue Emmy winner Gordon Clapp in The Constituent (2024),a film based on his own one-act play.
As the Oscar-winning writer of the timeless classic On Golden Pond (1981),adapted from his world-renowned play, Ernest has had the honor of seeing his work translated into 30 languages and performed in over 40 countries across six continents. His extensive body of work includes 37 plays, both full-length and one-acts, which have been performed in front of audiences and authored dozens of movies, with ten credited to him and six directed by him.
As an actor, Ernest has had a diverse range of roles, starring in two TV series, Sierra (1974) and Westside Medical (1977),as well as appearing on Broadway and off-Broadway stages and in theatres across the country. His talent extends beyond the screen, as he has written over 200 songs, collaborating with legendary artists such as Carly Simon and Joan Osborne. Ernest has also authored the novel The Book of Maps (2022),for which he recorded the audiobook, and is set to release Out Clause (2025).
