Erdal Besikcioglu was born on January 5, 1970, in Ankara, Turkey, to a family with strong connections to the country's sports and banking industries. His uncle, Ilhan Cavcav, was the President of Genclerbirligi Sports Club, while his father worked as a manager at Vakiflar Bankasi.
Due to his father's job, Erdal was forced to move around the country, attending primary school in Ankara, Kayseri, and Izmir. He completed his high school education at Izmir Private Turkish College and Izmir Narlidere Mehmet Seyfi Eraltay High School, before finishing his final year in Ankara.
In 1989, Erdal enrolled in the Hacettepe University State Conservatory, where he honed his acting skills through workshops on creative drama with renowned expert William Guskill. After graduating in 1993, he began his career at the State Theaters, working his way up the ranks to become the deputy director of the Diyarbakir State Theater during the 1995-1996 season.
Erdal continued to work at the Ankara State Theatre, where he would remain for many years. In 2006, he took on the role of Governor Recep Yazicioglu in a series of films based on the novel by Ayse Kulin, which told the story of the Baspinar Bridge and the efforts of Governor Yazicioglu to build it during his time as Erzincan Governor.
In 2014, Erdal starred alongside Ibrahim Celikkol, Selen Soyder, Nehir Erdogan, Ismail Demirci, and Yurdaer Okur in the TV series "Code Name Reaction / Kod Adi Reaksiyon". He has continued to work at the Ankara State Theatre to this day.
Erdal is married to his classmate from the conservatory, actress Elvin Besikcioglu, whom he wed in 1991. Together, they have two children, Derin and Ömer.
