Biography

Eddie Marsan was born in the vibrant and historic neighborhood of Stepney, located in the heart of East London, to a father who worked as a lorry driver and a mother who was employed at a school. Growing up in the adjacent area of Bethnal Green, Marsan was destined for a life filled with creativity and passion.

Before pursuing his dream of becoming an actor, Marsan served an apprenticeship as a printer, a skill that would undoubtedly serve him well in his future endeavors. However, it wasn't long before he decided to take the leap and embark on a career in the performing arts.

Throughout his illustrious career, Marsan has had the privilege of working with some of the most renowned and respected directors in the industry, including Martin Scorsese, Michael Mann, Steven Spielberg, Terrence Malick, Woody Allen, Alejandro G. Iñárritu, J.J. Abrams, Peter Berg, Guy Ritchie, and Richard Linklater.

One of Marsan's most notable collaborations was with the acclaimed director Mike Leigh, with whom he worked on three films: Vera Drake (2004),Happy-Go-Lucky (2008),and A Running Jump (2012). His performances in these films earned him numerous awards and nominations, including a British Independent Film Award for Best Supporting Actor, a London Film Critics Circle Award, and a National Society Of Film Critics Award.

Marsan's dedication to his craft has also led to him being nominated for an Evening Standard Film Award for Best Actor for his role in The Disappearance of Alice Creed (2009).

In addition to his work in film, Marsan is also a patron for the School of the Science of Acting and Kazzum, a children's theatre company that aims to promote diversity and acceptance.

Marsan is married to the talented make-up artist Janine Schneider (also known as Janine Schneider-Marsan),with whom he shares four beautiful children.
