Doug Maguire was born on April 11th, 1973, in Hyannis, Massachusetts. He dropped out of Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he studied technical writing and electronic engineering, and instead pursued a career in screenwriting and filmmaking.
Maguire's early years were marked by perseverance and self-taught skills. He learned about filmmaking by reading indie filmmaking magazines, books by his favorite directors, and paying close attention to every frame of his favorite movies. He also listened to audio commentaries available on laser discs.
At the age of 23, Maguire faced significant setbacks, including being fired from his job, bankruptcy, and dropping out of film school due to lack of funds and no financial aid. Instead of giving up, he set sail on a cross-country road trip and landed in Burbank, California.
Maguire's journey took an unexpected turn when he created two controversial underground rap albums, Scar Wars ~ Episode II: Attack of the Phone-E and Scar Wars ~ Episode III: Revenge of the Sith Sense. The albums were self-distributed to casting directors and casting agents around Los Angeles, but they ultimately failed to gain traction.
Undeterred, Maguire transitioned into graphic art, leveraging his marketing skills from his Scar Wars project to launch his own T-shirt company, PenalTees. This outlet allowed him to express his "stick it to the man" attitude through art.
In 2011, Maguire began production on the independent movie Bank Roll (2012) through his company, MagCo Entertainment. The film received several accolades, including Best Dramatic Feature at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival, the People's Choice Award, and Best California Feature at the California Film Awards.
Maguire has also been involved in social causes, joining The HONR Network in 2016 to fight internet trolls and bullies. He is a devoted father to his son, Vincente Maguire.
Throughout his career, Maguire has demonstrated resilience, creativity, and a willingness to take risks. Despite facing numerous setbacks, he has continued to pursue his passions and make a name for himself in the entertainment industry.
