Dennis Smithers, Jr. was born on December 9, 1979, in the Natural State, and his fascination with writing and the horror genre began during his childhood. Since then, he has successfully published and distributed his work as a storyteller across various platforms, including books, motion pictures, and comics.
In 1998, Smithers attended the Northwestern School of Taxidermy and graduated with honors from Cushman High School the same year. He also received training from the Arkansas prison system (Arkansas Department of Correction) and held the distinction of being the youngest Correctional Officer at the Grimes Maximum Security Unit in Newport. Furthermore, he served as a Correctional Officer at the North Central Unit in Calico Rock.
Smithers' career in the motion picture industry commenced in 2005 when he wrote, produced, directed, and shot a 32-minute psychological slasher film titled "A Bothered Conscience." The self-distributed success of the short film led him to create a feature-length version. The feature version of "A Bothered Conscience" was released worldwide in all media formats on April 3, 2007. The film was re-released in 2022 with a new edit by Smithers, and the title was changed to "Fatalities and Phantasms," which is Smithers' preferred title.
Currently, Smithers resides in his hometown of Cushman, a town with a population of 452.
