David Robinson is a renowned American former professional basketball player who spent his entire 14-year career playing center for the San Antonio Spurs in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Prior to his illustrious basketball career, Robinson served as an officer in the United States Navy, earning him the nickname "The Admiral" due to his impressive naval service.
Throughout his impressive career, Robinson earned numerous accolades, including being a 10-time NBA All-Star, the 1995 NBA Most Valuable Player, a two-time NBA Champion (1999 and 2003),and a two-time Olympic Gold Medal winner (1992 and 1996). He was also inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame twice, first as an individual in 2009 and then as a member of the 1992 United States men's Olympic basketball team in 2010. Additionally, Robinson was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame twice, once individually in 2008 and then as a member of the 1992 Olympic team in 2009.
Regarded as one of the greatest centers in both college basketball and NBA history, Robinson is the only player from the Naval Academy to play in the NBA. Over the course of his 987-game NBA career, he averaged 21.1 points per game, 10.7 rebounds per game, 3 blocks per game, and 2.5 assists per game. Robinson is also part of an elite group of players who have scored over 20,000 career points in the NBA, and one of only four players to have recorded a quadruple-double, achieving this feat with 34 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and 10 blocks against the Detroit Pistons on February 17, 1994.
