David Lama is a trailblazing young alpinist, renowned for his fearless approach to free climbing and aid soloing, which has taken him to previously unexplored regions and up numerous unclimbed walls, defying the conventional boundaries of adventure and exploration.
From a tender age of five, Lama exhibited a prodigious aptitude for climbing, and as a teenager, he solidified his reputation by winning a multitude of world cups. In 2008, he made history by becoming the first individual to claim victory in both lead and bouldering competitions, a testament to his exceptional skill and versatility.
During his illustrious career as a competitive climber, Lama continued to push the limits of human achievement, and in 2009, he made headlines by becoming the first person to accomplish a free ascent of Cerro Torre, a feat that cemented his status as a pioneer in the world of alpinism.
Tragically, in April 2019, Lama, along with fellow climbers Jess Roskelley and Hansjörg Auer, all members of The North Face's Global Athlete Team, embarked on a perilous expedition to conquer Howse Peak in the Canadian Rockies. However, their quest was cut short when they were caught in a massive avalanche, and despite a valiant rescue effort, they were presumed deceased, leaving the climbing community to mourn the loss of three remarkable athletes.
