Morris Wright Horovitch is a renowned English stage and screen actor, most notably recognized for his captivating portrayal of Grand Maester Mellos in HBO's epic series House of the Dragon in 2022. Born in London, Horovitch is the son of Morris Horovitch, a child care worker, and Alice, a teacher. He was schooled in Hertfordshire and honed his acting skills at the prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama.
Horovitch made his theatrical debut in 1966 at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham, performing in Saint Joan. He then went on to act in numerous plays for the Royal Exchange in Manchester between 1982 and 2004, taking on iconic roles such as Prospero in The Tempest and Torvald Helmer in Ibsen's A Doll's House.
With a career spanning over five decades, Horovitch has established himself as a versatile actor, effortlessly transitioning between stage and screen. His notable screen roles include Detective Inspector Slack in the BBC adaptations of Agatha Christie's mysteries, beginning with Miss Marple: The Body in the Library in 1984, and Commander Daniels in the Poirot episode The Kidnapped Prime Minister in 1989.
Horovitch has also starred in several TV series, including the relatively obscure Bognor, where he played a special investigator for the Board of Trade, and crime/action series such as The New Avengers, The Sandbaggers, Bulman, A Touch of Frost, and Foyle's War. He has also appeared in period drama and literary adaptations, such as The Young Victoria, Vanity Fair, Great Expectations, The Man with the Iron Heart, and The Nun.
In addition to his on-screen work, Horovitch has also lent his voice to several audio books, including Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent and poetry readings of Wordsworth and Shelley.
