Darren Whitfield's life story begins in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, where he spent his formative years attending Wombwell High School and later Barnsley College.
As a young boy, Darren was drawn to the world of television and film, with a particular fascination for the role of stuntman. However, it was his writing skills that truly showcased his early promise, as a comedy game show he created was even developed into a pilot by Yorkshire Television, a subsidiary of the ITV network.
Although the show never made it to series, Darren's writing talent was evident, and he went on to pen numerous comedy sketches and gags for television and radio.
It wasn't until his thirties that Darren decided to take his passion for performance to the next level, making his debut in the sketch comedy show "The Cage".
In 2009, Darren took on the role of John Walker in the gritty crime thriller "The Crew", starring alongside Scot Williams, Kenny Doughty, Stephen Graham, and Rory McCann. The film was based on Kevin Sampson's novel "Outlaws" and received critical acclaim.
Despite describing himself as having a face that is hard to forget, Darren has continued to build on his acting career, while also maintaining his writing skills and is constantly working on new comedy projects.
In 2010, Darren suffered a serious injury while playing football, which forced him to take a lengthy break from acting. However, he used this time to focus on his writing, and began working on a script for a comedy drama set in South Yorkshire. The working title of the project is "Exhausted", and it is currently under review by several production companies with a view to being optioned for a pilot episode.
In 2013, "Exhausted" was optioned, and plans are underway to begin production on the pilot episode in 2014. The project has already secured verbal commitments from a number of talented actors, including Dean Andrews, Kenny Doughty, and Shaun Dooley.
