Damián Alcázar is a renowned Mexican actor, distinguished for his portrayal of Colombian drug lord Gilberto Rodríguez Orejuela in the popular Netflix series Narcos.
He embarked on his acting journey by studying at the National Institute of Fine Arts and the Theatrical Experimentation Center, later continuing his education at the Faculty of Theater of the Veracruz University, where he would eventually work as a teacher.
For eight years, Alcázar served as an actor for two esteemed theatre companies, collaborating with Mexico's most prominent directors. Under the direction of George Labaudan, he appeared in Jean Genet's The Balcony.
Throughout his illustrious career, Alcázar has appeared in six foreign films and over twenty-eight Mexican films. He has received the prestigious Ariel Award for Best Actor twice, in 1999 and 2004, for his outstanding performances in Under California: The Time Limit and Crónicas.
Additionally, he won the prize for Best Actor at the Festival of Valladolid in Spain for his role in Crónicas. Alcázar has also received Ariel Awards for Best Supporting Actor for El anzuelo and The Crime of Father Amaro, and has been nominated for the award four other times.
The accomplished actor has also won the Best Actor award at the Cartagena Film Festival in Colombia for the film Two Crimes. Furthermore, he has worked on several telenovelas, including the recent Secretos del corazón, produced by Epigmenio Ibarra for TV Azteca.
In April 2013, Alcázar was awarded the Honor Prize of the Latin American Film Show of Lleida alongside José Coronado. Moreover, since June 2016, he has served as a deputy elected by Morena in the Constitutional Assembly of Mexico City.
