Iskandar Sharifuddin, also known by his professional name Dain Said, is a renowned Malaysian writer, actor, and director who initially gained widespread recognition with the release of his debut feature film, Dukun, in 2006. Unfortunately, the film's initial release was met with controversy due to its subject matter, resulting in a 12-year ban until its eventual release in 2018. Despite this setback, the film received widespread acclaim from fans who had followed Said's subsequent works and appreciated his distinctive approach to filmmaking.
Throughout his career, Said has remained humble and unassuming, preferring to keep a low profile and attributing his success to the support of those around him, including his producer, Nandita Solomon. He has expressed his hope to leave a lasting legacy by inspiring the next generation of Malaysians through his films and stories.
In the year 2024, Said has a busy schedule ahead, with various projects and commitments. He will be serving as a director for the SeaShorts Film Festival, overseeing a mentorship writing program in Pahang, and participating in a conference on film in Sumatra.
