China Kantner, daughter of Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship members Paul Kantner and Grace Slick, made her first public appearance as an infant on the cover of the 1971 solo LP "Sunfighter".
As she grew older, China continued to make appearances, becoming a regular guest VJ on MTV during her summer vacations from 1986 to 1988. Her most notable appearance as an MTV VJ was during the "Summer of Love" 20th anniversary celebrations, where she had to interview her own father, Paul Kantner.
Throughout her life, China has contributed to the music of Jefferson Starship as a songwriter and singer, although she has stated that she has no real musical aspirations of her own, citing her lack of singing ability. Despite this, she has still managed to make significant contributions to the band's music.
China has also spoken about the challenges she faces as the daughter of well-known musicians, stating that it has actually hurt her chances of getting parts in films and television shows. Directors often assume that she is also a musician, simply because of her parents, which can be frustrating for her.
