Caroline Georgiana Blakiston, a renowned English stage and screen actress, is often recognized for her impressive portrayals of titled ladies and dowagers on television. Born in Chelsea, London, she is the daughter of Hugh Noel Blakiston, an archivist, and Rachel Georgiana Russell, a non-fiction author.

As a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 1957, Blakiston began her theatrical career that same year at the Bristol Old Vic in the play Girls of Summer. She continued to appear on various stages throughout England before joining the ensemble of the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-Upon-Avon between 1993 and 1997.

From 2001 to 2003, Blakiston enjoyed a successful run as Mrs. Higgins in My Fair Lady at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane. Her extensive television career spans over five decades, with notable roles including Rebel Alliance leader Mon Mothma in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi and a range of characters in period dramas such as The Forsyte Saga and Raffles.

Blakiston has also appeared in various ITC productions, including The Saint, The Baron, The Avengers, and Department S, as well as guest spots in shows like As Time Goes By and Poldark. In addition, she has had leading roles in the BBC drama series Rides and the Granada socio-economic satire Brass.

Blakiston has been married to Scottish actor Russell Hunter, with whom she appeared on stage in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Throughout her illustrious career, she has consistently demonstrated her versatility and range as an actress, effortlessly transitioning between dramatic and comedic roles.
