Carlos Bolado is a Mexican director, writer, and showrunner with a distinguished career spanning feature films and television. He is widely recognized as the director and executive producer of the global hit series "La Reina del Sur 3", which holds the record as the #1 most-watched TV series in Spanish on Netflix and the #6 most-watched series overall in the world in any language with a staggering 617 million hours viewed.
Bolado's feature directing debut, "Baja California: El Limite Del Tiempo", starring Damián Alcázar and Jesùs Ochoa, earned him two prestigious Ariel Awards for editing and Best First Work. Since then, he has directed acclaimed documentary and feature films, including co-directing the Academy Award-nominated documentary "Promises" and writing and directing the Sundance World Cinema Grand Jury Prize nominee "Only God Knows", starring Diego Luna and Alice Braga.
In addition to his feature film work, Bolado has written and directed several notable films, including "Colosio" starring José Maria Yazpik and Kate del Castillo, "Tlateloco", and "Verano de 68" starring Teresa Ruiz, Cassandra Ciangherotti, and Luis Ernesto Franco.
Bolado has also made a significant impact in episodic television, directing episodes for Telemundo hits "Camelia La Texana" starring Sara Maldonado and other hit TV shows, including "Who Killed Sara" (Netflix) and "Natural Born Narcos" (Telemundo). He has also directed the series "Malverde" for Telemundo, starring Fernando Colunga.
Prior to his work as a director, Bolado began his career as an editor, working on the critically acclaimed film "Like Water For Chocolate" directed by Afonso Arau. He also served as an editing advisor for Lionsgate's Academy Award-nominated "Amores Perros" directed by Alejandro G. Iñarritu and Pantelion/Lionsgate's "Instructions Not Included" directed by and starring Eugenio Derbez.
