Brian O'Malley is a multifaceted film and television director with a diverse range of credits to his name. He has recently been announced as the lead director of the upcoming original series 'Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue' for Eleventh Hour Films, Sony, MGM+, and BBC, which is set to premiere in 2025.
Prior to this, O'Malley was the series director of the Netflix number one TV series 'The Cuckoo' for Clapperboard, as well as block 2 of 'Alex Rider' S3 for Eleventh Hour Films and Sony/Amazon. He has also directed the four-part thriller 'The Ex Wife' for Paramount+ and the spaghetti western series 'That Dirty Black Bag' for AMC+.
In addition to his work in television, O'Malley is also known for his gothic horror movies 'Let Us Prey' and 'The Lodgers'. 'Let Us Prey', starring Liam Cunningham, won the Méliès d'Argent for Best European Fantastic Feature Film at its world premiere at the Belgium International Fantastic Film Festival in 2014. His second feature film, 'The Lodgers', a elegantly gothic ghost story set in rural Ireland in 1920, premiered at TIFF 2017 and was released theatrically on February 23rd, 2018.
O'Malley has also written and directed several short films, including 'Crossing Salween' (2010) and 'Screwback' (2005). In 2005, he won the Hartley Merrill Screenwriting award for his feature film script 'SISK', which he co-wrote with Terry McMahon and Mark O'Rowe.
Before transitioning into film and television direction, O'Malley studied Fine Art, specializing in Sculpture. He then moved into music video and short film direction before beginning to direct TV commercials in 2001. O'Malley made the leap into drama direction in 2022 and also enjoys making electronic music in his spare time.
