Bobby Roth, a renowned filmmaker, has spent his entire career oscillating between independent filmmaking and commercial television. His journey began in Los Angeles, where he still resides today, just a block away from his childhood home.
Roth's academic background is impressive, having studied Philosophy and Creative Writing at the University of California, Berkeley, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Cinema from the University of Southern California in 1972. He further honed his skills by earning a Master of Fine Arts in Motion Picture Production from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1975.
Throughout his illustrious career, Roth has made significant contributions to the industry. In the early 1980s, he secured an overall deal with Universal, where he created the series "The Insiders" for ABC.
His independent films have garnered widespread recognition, being showcased in over one hundred film festivals worldwide. Five of his films have premiered at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival, where he has also served as a judge.
Roth's dedication to the independent film community is evident through his involvement with the Independent Feature Project, where he was a founding member. Additionally, he was a founding member of the Directors Guild of America's Independent Feature Committee, serving as its first Co-Chairman.
