Bhagyashree Patwardhan was born on February 23, 1969, into a traditional Marathi-speaking Patwardhan family with a rich royal heritage. Her father, the former Maharaja of Sangli, was a highly educated individual holding an MBA and LLB degree. As a child, Bhagyashree was taught Sanskrit, and her father would often recite Slokas, laying the foundation for her future language skills.
Initially, Bhagyashree was considering pursuing higher education overseas, specifically in the field of management. However, her career took an unexpected turn when Sheela, the former wife of actor Amol Palekar, approached her to act in a television serial, "Kaachi Dhoop," which she accepted. The serial's immense popularity led to her appearance in other TV shows, including "Honi Anhonee" and "Kisse Miya Biwi Ke."
Bhagyashree's innocent and charming on-screen presence earned her the lead role in Sooraj Barjatya's "Maine Pyar Kiya" opposite Salman Khan, which turned out to be a massive blockbuster. She went on to star in a total of six movies, including two from Bangladesh, two in Kannada, and two in Telugu. Her childhood education in Sanskrit proved to be a valuable asset, allowing her to adapt to different languages with ease.
The success of "Maine Pyar Kiya" could have catapulted Bhagyashree to stardom, but she decided to get married to her boyfriend, Himalay Dassani, shortly after the film's release. She conditionally agreed to act in movies only if Himalay was given a lead role alongside her. The couple starred together in three movies, "Qaid Main Hai Bulbul," "Tyaagi," and "Paayal," but unfortunately, all three failed to impress at the box office.
Bhagyashree then shifted her focus to her family, becoming a mother of two children. She prioritizes her family life and works only 15 days a month. She made a comeback to the small screen with a TV serial, playing the role of a mature politician, and also appeared in a TV commercial for Parag Sarees.
In addition to her acting career, Bhagyashree made special appearances in "Humko Deewana Kar Gaye" and "Janani." She is also involved in the production of "Kagaz Ki Kashti," a small-screen project being produced by her husband, Himalay, for Sahara One.
