Barry Van Dyke, the second son of the legendary entertainer Dick Van Dyke, has a rich and diverse career in the entertainment industry. Born into a family of performers, Barry's early start in show business began with his television debut as "Florian", a violin-toting nine-year-old in the classic episode "The Talented Neighborhood" of his father's iconic show "The Dick Van Dyke Show" in 1962.
Growing up, Barry worked behind the scenes on various projects with his father, and later co-starred with him in three television series: "The Van Dyke Show" in 1988, "Diagnosis Murder" in 1993, and "Murder 101" in 2006. His extensive television credits also include appearances in "Galactica 1980" in 1980, "Airwolf" in 1984, "Gun Shy" in 1983, "Mr. Mom" in 1983, and "The Redd Foxx Show" in 1986, as well as numerous guest roles.
In addition to his television work, Barry has appeared in several films, including "Foxfire Light" in 1983, "Ants!" in 1977, and "Casino" in 1980. Barry met his wife, Mary, when they were both 16 years old, and they married seven years later. The couple has four children: Carey Van Dyke, Shane Van Dyke, Wes Van Dyke, and Taryn Van Dyke. All four children have guest-starred alongside their father and grandfather in scripts written by Barry on the hit television show "Diagnosis Murder" in 1993.
In his free time, Barry is an avid motorcyclist with a special fondness for dirt bikes. He has participated in protest rides to preserve the rights of motorcyclists to fair use of public lands. Barry is also an accomplished surfer and has even rescued a drowning person from the ocean off Baja.
