Norman Rewiri's formative years were marked by a series of minor infractions, which ultimately culminated in a misguided attempt to hold up a betting shop at gunpoint. This fateful decision would subsequently land him behind bars, where he finally had the opportunity to acquire a formal education.
Upon his release from prison, Rewiri opted to start anew, adopting a fresh alias and embarking on a life of union organizing and arbitration. His professional trajectory was about to take an unexpected turn, however, when renowned director Geoff Murphy stumbled upon him on the news and offered him the lead role in his upcoming film, "Utu". This chance encounter would serve as the catalyst for Rewiri's third and most unexpected career path yet.
