Biography

Andy Samberg was born in Berkeley, California, to Marjorie (Marrow),a dedicated teacher, and Joe Samberg, a skilled photographer. Alongside Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, Samberg is one of three talented Los Angeles, California-based writer-performer-filmmakers, all childhood friends, who collectively form the renowned group known as The Lonely Island. This trio of creative minds, who showcased their short films on the popular untelevised television network show and website, shared a passion for humor and storytelling. Some of their most notable and hilarious shorts include the 2003 parody of The O.C., titled "The 'Bu", and their full-length pilot, "Awesometown". Their impressive portfolio also includes a number of memorable collaborations, such as the 2005 release "The Lonely Island: Lazy Sunday", the 2006 hit "The Lonely Island feat. Justin Timberlake: Dick in a Box", and the 2009 chart-topper "The Lonely Island Feat. T-Pain: I'm on a Boat".

After gaining widespread recognition for their work on Saturday Night Live (1975),Samberg, along with his Lonely Island cohorts Jorma and Akiva, were invited to audition for the show. Andy was subsequently cast as a featured performer, while his friends Jorma and Akiva were hired as writers. The group's numerous contributions to SNL include the memorable sketches "The Lonely Island: Lazy Sunday", "The Lonely Island feat. Justin Timberlake: Dick in a Box", and "The Lonely Island Feat. T-Pain: I'm on a Boat".

In the latter stages of his first season on SNL, Andy began working on the lead role in the film Hot Rod (2007),the first major motion picture produced by the Lonely Island team, with the support of renowned producer Lorne Michaels.

After a successful seven-year stint on SNL, Samberg decided to resign from the show in 2012. Initially, he was not keen on joining a television series as a regular cast member, but after reading the script for Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013),he was compelled to join the show. Andy plays the role of Jake Peralta, the best detective in Brooklyn's 99th police precinct, who also happens to be the most immature. In 2013, Samberg received the prestigious Golden Globe for Best Actor - Television Series Musical or Comedy for his outstanding performance.

In 2016, Andy starred in the pop music mockumentary Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016),alongside his friends and collaborators Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, who also co-directed the film.

Andy Samberg is married to singer-songwriter Joanna Newsom, whom he wed on September 21, 2013, in Big Sur, California. In August 2017, the couple announced the birth of their baby daughter.
