Biography

Andrew Kotting embarked on his directorial journey with the critically acclaimed film Gallivant, which earned him the prestigious Channel 4's Best New Director Award at the esteemed Edinburgh International Film Festival in 1996.

Following his successful directorial debut, Kotting co-wrote This Filthy Earth alongside Sean Lock, with whom he had previously collaborated on the project Smart Alex. The duo worked tirelessly, refining the script through a grueling eight drafts, before finally bringing their vision to life.

With a solid script in hand, Kotting and his team set out to find the perfect location to bring their story to life. After spending 10 days traversing the picturesque Yorkshire Dales, Kotting and his crew settled on the location, and the construction of the film's village began.

To bring this ambitious project to fruition, Kotting secured a budget of £1.2 million, which was generously provided by a combination of sources, including the Film Council lottery money, the East London Film Fund, the Yorkshire Media Production Agency, and British Screen.
