Born in the charming town of Porto Empedocle, Sicily, Italy in the year 1925, this individual's journey in the world of theater began to take shape in 1942, when he started working as a stage manager. Over the course of his illustrious career, he had the privilege of directing a staggering number of productions, including those of renowned playwrights such as Luigi Pirandello and Samuel Beckett, whom he introduced to Italy for the first time in 1958.
Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, he worked for Radiotelevisione Italiana (RAI),where he served as production manager for a long series of TV movies and miniseries based on the novels of Georges Simenon and an original character, Lt. Sheridan, created by Mario Casacci and Alberto Ciambricco.
In 1978, he ventured into the world of literature, penning his first novel. And then, in 1994, he published his first mystery novel, which introduced the character Salvo Montalbano, heavily inspired by Jules Maigret, and became a massive bestseller. The novel's title was "Forma dell'acqua, La" (2000) (TV),and later, numerous TV movies were adapted from his works.
Today, he is a married man, with three daughters and four grandchildren, and resides in the eternal city of Rome.
