Born in Lansing, Michigan, Akie is fluent in both English and Japanese, and has spent significant time living in Europe, Asia, and South America. He grew up in Austin, Texas, and discovered his passion for acting at the age of 20, after successfully auditioning for a student film while studying computer science at the University of Texas.
Following this initial spark, Akie moved to Los Angeles in 2005 after working in theatre in Japan for a year. Within a few months, he landed the main role in a national commercial for Cingular Wireless, directed by Oscar-winner Errol Morris, and has since continued to build a successful career in the entertainment industry.
