Agnes Chow Ting, a renowned Hong Kong politician and social activist, was born on December 3rd, 1996. Notably, she was a former member of the Standing Committee of Demosisto and former spokesperson of Scholarism. Her political endeavors have been characterized by her unwavering commitment to democratic values and her unrelenting advocacy for self-determination in Hong Kong.
In 2018, Chow's candidacy for the Hong Kong Island by-election, which was backed by the pro-democracy camp, was unfortunately blocked by authorities due to her party's stance on self-determination. This decision sparked widespread controversy and highlighted the ongoing struggle for democratic rights in Hong Kong.
In August 2019, Chow was arrested during the 2019-2020 Hong Kong protests for her involvement in a protest at police headquarters two months prior. Subsequently, she was sentenced to a 10-month prison term in December 2020. Her imprisonment served as a poignant reminder of the ongoing crackdown on dissenting voices in Hong Kong.
Chow faced yet another arrest in August 2020, this time on charges of 'collusion with foreign forces' under the National Security Law. Although she was released on bail the very next day, the incident underscored the increasingly authoritarian nature of the Hong Kong government.
In September 2023, Chow made the difficult decision to go into exile in Canada, where she pursued a master's degree at OCAD University. Her academic achievements culminated in her graduation in 2025, marking a significant milestone in her personal and professional journey.
