Adam Nelson, a filmmaker and writer, was born in Portsmouth, United Kingdom, and began his creative endeavors before the age of ten. He would craft short stories inspired by films he had seen and then bring them to life using stop motion techniques and his father's VHS camera.
As he grew older, Adam's passion for filmmaking only intensified. He studied film and media studies at A-level, developing a proficiency in using analog editing equipment to cut short films. This skillset served him well during his degree in film studies, where he honed his craft by editing numerous short films for his peers.
Upon graduating with a 2:1 in Film Studies, Adam turned his attention to teaching, sharing his knowledge with others and inspiring a new generation of filmmakers. It was during this time, while teaching BTEC film production and managing the media department at a large further education college, that Adam discovered his aptitude for directing.
Adam's first foray into directing was the short film The House Near Apple Park, made on a shoestring budget with a team of dedicated cast and crew. Despite being a low-budget endeavor, the film garnered positive reviews and encouraged Adam to pursue his first feature-length project.
Little Pieces, Adam's debut feature, was shot during the summer of 2013 for a budget of £6000. The film was edited over the course of the following year, with Adam balancing his creative pursuits with his teaching responsibilities. Little Pieces premiered at the Institute of Contemporary Art in April 2015 and went on to play at film festivals around the world, receiving largely positive reviews.
The success of Little Pieces led to Adam receiving private investment to fund his short film Emotional Motor Unit, his first truly professional production. Emotional Motor Unit was completed in September 2016 and toured the world, winning numerous awards and earning widespread critical acclaim.
Adam's subsequent projects include writing the screenplay for Lost Seoul, a true story about Jin Stearns, alongside director Jane Gull. He has also partnered with Pastel Wasteland to develop a segment for the horror anthology I Am An Addict and is working on a second anthology idea with Rob and a group of emerging writers.
Adam's latest endeavor is the thriller The Mire, a film that explores the manipulation of charismatic characters through the story of a cult leader attempting to flee with stolen funds.
Throughout his career, Adam has remained committed to supporting regional filmmaking and encouraging the development of creative projects outside of the larger metropolitan cities. He continues to run his production company, Apple Park Films ltd, and works with emerging filmmakers and writers to bring their visions to life.
