In 709 A.D., a spacecraft crashes in the Viking kingdom of Herot, Norway, and its pilot Kainan survives the crash. He uses a machine to learn the local language and culture, but soon discovers that the alien predator, Moorwen, he was transporting has escaped and is wreaking havoc on the land.
