Martha, a highly accomplished and multifaceted performer, was born in New Brunswick, Canada to a father who was a theatre director and a mother who was an artist. Growing up in Massachusetts, where her father taught directing at Boston University, Martha spent her summers on Prince Edward Island, Canada, where she developed a deep connection to the community and its vibrant arts scene.
As a teenager, Martha began her theatre career on Prince Edward Island, appearing in community theatre productions and later transitioning to professional work at the tender age of sixteen. She performed in various productions for the Confederation Centre of the Arts, the Victoria and Georgetown theatres, and Lunchtime Theatre, honing her craft and building a strong foundation for her future career.
Martha's breakthrough in television came with her role in the CBC production "Marshlands", where she played a young Acadian girl who falls in love with a British soldier during the expulsion of the Acadians in Nova Scotia. This role not only showcased her impressive range but also sparked her passion for storytelling and character development.
To further her education and skills, Martha went on to study acting at the prestigious LAMDA in England. Upon her return to Canada, she settled in Toronto, where she landed a role in the 1988 TV series "The War of the Worlds". However, it was her move to Halifax, Nova Scotia that truly marked the beginning of her illustrious career.
In Halifax, Martha has had an award-winning career, appearing in numerous productions on stage and screen. She has graced the stages of theatres across Canada, earning critical acclaim and recognition for her outstanding performances. Moreover, Martha co-founded and served as co-artistic director of the esteemed LunaSea Theatre Co. in Halifax, cementing her status as a leading figure in the Canadian theatre scene.
