A carefree summer takes a dramatic turn for a young girl as she becomes swept up in the exhilarating world of surfing and finds herself entwined with a charming boy who shares her love for the ocean.

Francis, who had an accident while swimming, befriends Moondoggie, a surfer, and becomes fascinated with the sport. Despite initial teasing, she learns to surf with his group and earns the nickname "Gidget." However, gaining more than just friendship with Moondoggie proves to be a challenging task.
