Rainer Werner Fassbinder, a 22-year-old newcomer, took over a Munich theater in 1967, marking the beginning of his remarkable career as a German filmmaker. He attracted a group of actresses, promoters, and lovers, and continued to produce films, many of which caused controversy at festivals. Fassbinder's radical views and self-destructive habits made him a polarizing figure, both professionally and personally. Despite his talent and passion, his relentless work ethic, physical exhaustion, and drug use eventually took a toll on those around him.
