Aurora Teagarden, a librarian and amateur sleuth, and her friend Sally Allison are in Aurora's yard when a body falls from a plane and lands near them. The victim is Lawrenceton's Chief of Police, Frederick Burns, who had recently spoken to Aurora about her boyfriend Martin Bartell. Despite being warned to stay out of the case, Aurora can't help but investigate, particularly when she discovers that Martin was the last person to see the Chief alive.
