Bob Seton, a Texan, moves to Lawrence, Kansas, where he falls for Mary McCloud, the banker's daughter. As tensions rise before the Civil War, he runs for marshal against respected schoolteacher William Cantrell. However, Cantrell's ambition and greed lead him to form a group of raiders, terrorizing settlers and eventually donning Confederate uniforms. Seton and the people of Lawrence must face Cantrell and his raiders in a final showdown.
