In the quiet town of Firecreek, a family man named Johnny Cobb leads a double life as a low-paid Sheriff with a homemade badge. When a gang of ruthless outlaws passes through, their leader Larkin agrees to spend the night, despite his men's sadistic behavior towards the townspeople. As the gang's antics escalate, Cobb must confront the leader's reluctance to intervene and protect the innocent, including a young woman and her mixed-race child, who are threatened by the gang's violence.
