In the midst of financial turmoil, a father and son embark on a perilous journey to smuggle whiskey and secure their family's prosperity.

A family in Vermont struggles after a devastating fire destroys their hay, leading them to consider bootlegging whiskey to make ends meet. Quebec Bill, who has a history of running whiskey, returns to Vermont after his father's disappearance and convinces his brother-in-law and others to join him. The group crosses into Canada, where whiskey is legal, but they must resort to stealing and violence to get by.
