Gary Dale Farmer is a character actor with a diverse range of film and television appearances under his belt. With over 100 credits to his name, he has demonstrated his ability to adapt to any genre, effortlessly taking on a wide variety of roles.
Born in Ohsweken, Ontario, into the Cayuga nation and Wolf Clan, Gary was raised with a strong cultural heritage. He went on to study photography and film at both Syracuse University and Ryerson Polytechnic University.
Gary's early career in acting began with small roles in films such as Police Academy (1984),The Believers (1987),The Big Town (1987),and Renegades (1989),alongside notable actors like Martin Sheen, Matt Dillon, and Kiefer Sutherland.
By the early 1990s, Gary had started landing more substantial roles. He portrayed Cowboy Dashee in the Robert Redford-produced thriller, The Dark Wind (1991),and starred alongside Corey Feldman and Corey Haim in the drama Blown Away (1993).
Lou Diamond Phillips cast Gary in his directorial debut, Sioux City (1994),and Ernest R. Dickerson cast him in the first Tales from the Crypt (1989) horror movie, Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight (1995),alongside Billy Zane.
Gary received critical acclaim for his performance as Nobody in the Jim Jarmusch independent western, Dead Man (1995),starring alongside Johnny Depp, and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for his role. He was again nominated for his performance in Smoke Signals (1998).
Jim Jarmusch re-cast Gary as the Native American spiritual guide - Nobody - for his next film, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999),and Frank Oz cast him alongside Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro in The Score (2001).
In addition to his acting career, Gary has also ventured behind the camera, directing a few projects, including an episode of the Forever Knight (1992) TV series, episode 'Father Figure' (1992).
Gary is also a musician, forming his own band, Gary Farmer and the Troublemakers, which plays the blues and has released two CDs.
