Sheriff Mitch Rivers discovers the brutal murder of two wealthy townspeople on Halloween night and enlists the help of a psychologist, Dr. Jake Rainer, to investigate the crime. The only witnesses are the autistic son Tim Warden and his teenage sister Sylvie, who claim not to have seen the killer's face. Driven by a personal tragedy, Jake initially refuses the case, but later takes it on after witnessing the questionable treatment of Tim by another psychologist. As Jake works to uncover the truth, he forms a bond with Tim and his protective sister, Sylvie, and uncovers a darker reality than he initially suspected.
