A nostalgic reunion brings back beloved characters from The Andy Griffith Show, as Andy Taylor returns to Mayberry with plans to reclaim his old job as Sheriff. However, he's surprised to find his old deputy and friend Barney Fife is also vying for the position. Andy decides to step aside, and instead helps Barney solve a series of mysterious occurrences. Meanwhile, Barney prepares to propose to his long-time love Thelma Lou, and Andy's son Opie is on the cusp of becoming a father.

Andy Taylor returns to Mayberry to spend time with his pregnant son Opie, only to find himself caught up in Barney Fife's campaign to become Sheriff, offering his assistance to his-mean welling but hapless friend.
