Four friends, Jonathan, Richard, Rob, and Tim, reunite for a week at a beachfront house in Big Sur to celebrate Tim's birthday. Each has achieved some success, but is struggling with personal issues. Jonathan, a physician, writes prescriptions for recreational use in exchange for payola, while Richard, a former novelist, now teaches high school English. Rob, a stockbroker, has stolen from his clients and faces probable indictment, and Tim, who was involved in a fatal accident, still grapples with guilt. As they relive their former party days, an incident forces them to re-examine their lives and decide if they'll keep their pact from 25 years ago.
