Poke, a man released from prison after serving five years for a drug charge, returns to his hometown with a plan to leave with his sweetheart Mary Lee and their child to start a new life in California. However, his plans are derailed when he discovers that Mary Lee has moved on with Duke, the sheriff who put him behind bars. The situation takes a deadly turn when Poke witnesses Duke murdering a local politician, leaving Poke with no choice but to either flee for his life or stand up against the corrupt sheriff.
