The film tells the story of Fast Eddie Felson, a seasoned pool hustler, who discovers a young and talented player named Vincent in a local bar. Seeing himself in Vincent, Eddie offers to mentor him, taking him and his girlfriend Carmen on a road trip to work the pool halls across the country. However, Vincent's showboating tendencies ultimately lead to a confrontation with Eddie, threatening their hustling partnership.
