A widow, Marty, accompanies her deceased husband's body on the wagon trail to the West, but ultimately loses him. With no resources and left alone, she agrees to marry a widower, Clark Davis, to help care for his young daughter, Missie, in exchange for his support until spring. Despite initial resistance from Missie, the family forms a bond over time.
