In 1924 Germany, a middle-aged literature professor at a boys' school, Dr. Immanuel Rath, is shocked to discover his students frequenting the cabaret, Blue Angel. Believing it's corrupting their minds, he visits the club to catch them in the act and ask the headlining performer, Lola Lola, to stop performing. However, he becomes infatuated with Lola, and his relationship with her ultimately ends in disaster, threatening his teaching career.
