The film follows a determined D.C. political columnist, Rachel Armstrong, who is driven by her ambition to win a Pulitzer Prize and expose a President's alleged wrongdoing. After writing about a covert CIA operative's findings being ignored, Rachel faces intense pressure from the government to reveal her source. When she refuses, she is jailed for contempt, sparking a chain of events that puts her marriage, motherhood, and principles to the test.
