The 9-11 attack prompted the Army's elite Special Forces, known as the "Green Berets", to spring into action within weeks. They collaborated with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) to secure the country, enabling other Special Forces and conventional military units to launch a more visible campaign.
